Give Peace a Chance: First India-Pakistan Summit on Social Media Looks Promising

India and Pakistan, the sub-continent’s most famously turbulent nation-siblings, seem to have called a truce to see eye-to-eye on at least one issue: using social media to promote youth engagement and leadership in their respective socio-cultural, economic and political policies. The first Pakistan-India Social Media Mela, to be held in Karachi on July 13-14, 2012 “aims to nurture dialogue, thought leadership, and critical engagement with entrepreneurs, journalists, activists, and creative professionals.” With a formidable speaker’s list of media, entertainment and education personalities and social media entrepreneurs, the conference promises to fill a much-needed space in the realms of digital rights management, intellectual property rights education and social media for peaceful community-building. At IPEye, we will continue to follow the developments of the Mela closely, and are filled with much anticipation about its potential to provide the youth of the sub-continent with the digital tools needed to make a real difference in the world.
